BNP leader Mir Mohammed Nasir Uddin has allegedly come under attack by ruling Awami League men during an electoral campaign at Rangunia municipality in Chittagong.
Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Mir Nasir – advisor to the BNP chairperson and a former minister – alleged that Chhatra League and Jubo League men had attacked him when he was campaigning in favour of BNP-nominated mayoral candidate for the upcoming municipal elections in Rangunia on Saturday.
Describing the incident, he said: “A group of 30 to 40 youths armed with guns and sharp weapons, suddenly swooped on me and my followers as soon as I concluded my speech at Gochhara Bazar around 1pm.”
“The attackers also pelted stones at my motorcade and vandalised my vehicle. I somehow managed to escape the assault but eight of my followers sustained injuries,” he added. Mir Nasir also alleged that the attackers picked up three of his followers but later released one of them.
Denying the allegations, Officer-in-Charge of Rangunia police station Humayun Kabir said there was no such attack on the BNP campaigners.
“There was no attack and no one was injured. The BNP leader along with his campaigners left the area after wrapping up his electoral campaign,” said the OC.
Mir Nasir was at Rangunia as part of conducting electoral campaign in favour of BNP-nominated mayoral candidate Helaluddin Shah.
