Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddique offered prayers in front of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s grave in Gopalganj’s Tungipara from Wednesday night to early yesterday morning.
His entourage included family members and party members, and they all reached Tungipara on Wednesday afternoon.
Kader, after paying homage to Bangabandhu upon his arrival, said he was the first person to protest after Bangabandhu and most of his family members were killed on August 15, 1975.
“No one raised voice against the killings but I was the first to do so on August 19. That is why I am here today in remembrance of the date,” he said.
The veteran politician said August did not seem to be the month of mourning for all but it was so for him.
“The assassination of Bangabandhu turned my life upside down, and people also lost their dignity. Besides, his death destroyed the country’s strength and independence,” said Kader.
The Krishak Sramik Janata League president said he had urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her birthday on August 15.
“I suggested that she arrange birthday celebrations either before or after the National Mourning Day. I heard the other day that she was contemplating delaying the celebrations gradually but that does not seem to be the best step to take because this is a matter of feelings,” added Kader.
Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara police station Md Mahmudul Haque said yesterday Kader and others left Tungipara around 7am.
