Tuesday (25.8.26) marks the seventh death anniversary of Dr Shaikh Maqsood Ali, former Member of the Bangladesh Planning Commission and a renowned former civil servant.
Dr Ali started his career in 1957 as a lecturer in Economics at the University of Dhaka.
He joined the Civil Service in 1959 and till his retirement in 1993, served the Government of Bangladesh as members of the General Economic Division and the Industries and Energy Division of the Planning Commission; Secretary, Ministry of Relief and Rehabilitation; Joint Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, IWT & Aviation; Founder Rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center, Director General of the National Institute of Public Administration, Director, Project Implementation Bureau, and the President’s Secretariat among other distinguished positions
While studying in the UK, he played an important role in mobilizing support for Bangladesh’s independence.
His academic and professional work focused particularly on poverty alleviation, integrated social mobilization, South Asian values and pro-poor development, and he wrote extensively in national and international publications.
His wife, late Dr Sofia Hasna Jahan Ali, was a professor of economics at the University of Dhaka.
His family members seek the kind prayers of relatives, friends and well-wishers for the salvation of his soul.
