Bangladeshi journalist Nahid Hossain honoured with Saarc Global Excellence Award

Journalist Nahid Hossain has been awarded the Saarc Global Excellence Award 2024 for his outstanding contributions to diplomatic reporting in Dhaka.

The award ceremony, the first of its kind organized by the Saarc Journalist Association, took place at Kathmandu Model College in Nepal on Sunday.

The award, presented by the Saarc Journalist Association, recognizes Nahid as the Best Reporter (Diplomatic Affairs) for his remarkable work in reporting on bilateral and multilateral issues.

The award was presented to Nahid by Prithvi Subba Gurung, Nepal’s minister for communications and information technology.

Bal Krishna Basnet, president of the Press Council of Nepal, also attended the event.

This year’s award entries came from India, Bangladesh and Nepal, reflecting the vibrant journalistic contributions within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) region.

A distinguished jury board comprising experts from these three countries evaluated the contributions of all nominees.

Nahid has been a journalist for over a decade, working with prominent Bangladeshi news channels, including Somoy TV, Channel 24 and News 24.

His insightful reporting on complex diplomatic affairs and his contributions to fostering understanding between nations within the Saarc region earned him this recognition, said a statement.

Amit Halder, a journalist from India, and Temba Sherpa from Nepal were also awarded for their journalistic contribution in their respective fields.
