Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said fare charts for air-conditioned (AC) buses and minibuses will be finalized soon, with plans to display them on digital screens inside public transport.
He made the statement on Thursday, in response to a written question tabled in parliament on the 12th day of its first session.
The session of the 13th National Parliament was chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram.
Responding to a query from Brahmanbaria-2 MP Rumeen Farhana on measures to ensure disciplined highway movement and enforce proper fares, the minister said that under the Road Transport Act, 2018, passenger and goods transport committees are formed in each metropolitan area, division and district. These committees determine vehicle numbers and approve route permits based on road capacity, as per the Road Transport Rules, 2022.
He added that public transport fares, including minimum rates, are fixed or revised through government gazette notifications with prior approval. The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) publishes updated fare charts on its website and instructs operators to display them prominently inside vehicles. While fare charts for non-AC buses already exist, those for AC services will be introduced soon and shown digitally.
