Sylhet transport strike called off

The transport owners and workers under the banner of Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Okya Parishad went to the strike in the morning, protesting the vandalism of a ‘Hanif Paribahan’ bus after it killed two people.

President of Sarak Paribahan Malik-Sramik Okya Parishad Sylhet chapter Selim Ahmad Falik said they had decided to call off the strike upon assurance of the police administration.

He also said the administration assured them it would take immediate steps to meet their demands.

On Wednesday afternoon, Abdus Shahid, 27, son of Babul Miah, and UP member Yunus Ali, 30, both residents of Bagharkhola Kalapur village, were killed as the Hanif Paribahan bus knocked their motorcycle at Lalabazar on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the city.

Following the accident, agitated locals vandalised the bus and set fire to it.
