World Tiger Day observed

The World Tiger Day was celebrated in different parts of the country on Saturday aiming to raise awareness for tiger conservation across the globe.
The Forest Department and different non-government organisatins chalked out elaborate programmes in Satkhira, Bagerhat and Khulna districts on the ocassion.
In Bagerhat, a colourful rally was brought out from Central Shaheed Minar in the morning with the slogan “Tigers are our pride, we will save them”, our correspondent reported.
Later, a discussion was held at district council auditorium where Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju spoke as chief guest with Mohammed Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests for the Bangladesh Forest Department in the chair.
The minister said: “Tigers are on the brink of extinction and International World Tiger Day aims to bring attention to this fact and try to halt their decline.”
Our Satkhira correspondent reported that a rally was brought in the town aiming to build awareness across the globe to save the remaining population of the majestic big cat from extinction.
A discussion was also held at Sundarban High School auditorium on the occasion.
