Nine people killed in lightning strikes

Three members of a family were killed as a lightning strike at their house in Madhupur upazila, Tangail.

The deceased are Nikhil Hajong, 38, and his sons Joj Ing San, 10, and Loton Ing San, 8.

Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur police station Md Shafikul Islam said: “They were sleeping when the lightning struck their house in the early hours of the day.”

In another incident, a thunderbolt struck Maijuddin Sheikh, 50, son of Nadhu Sheikh of Railla village under Saturia upazila in Manikganj when he was working at his cowshed. He died on the spot.

In Kishoreganj, a woman and her son was killed in a thunderbolt strike at Koronsi village under sadar upzila. The deceased are Lolita, 40, and her son Rimon, 15.

Locals said a thunderbolt struck their house in the morning and they died on the spot.

In Sunamganj, two fishermen were killed and five others injured in a lightning strike while they were netting fish in a beel. The deaceased are Md Shamim Mia, 28, son of Kanai Mia, a resident of Matiapur village and his covillager Md Tohur Ali, 25, son Md Abdul Hasim.

Of the injured, two people were admitted to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical state.

Meanwhile, a child was killed after hit by a thunderbolt at Tukdirai village of the same union parishad.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar police station Md Abdul Jalil told the Dhaka Tribune that a thunderbolt hit Samran Hossain while he was playing at courtyard.
