A 13-year-old madrasa student allegedly died by suicide in Gournadi upazila of Barisal after her mother reprimanded her for using TikTok instead of studying.
The deceased was a Class VII student at Sundardi Gausia Abedia Sunnia Madrasa. Her father lives in Italy.
Quoting family members, Gournadi Model police station OC Tarif Hasan Russell said deceased mother scolded her on Saturday afternoon, prompting her to hang herself from a beam in the kitchen while other family members were unaware.
She was rushed to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared her dead.
The OC said the body was handed over to the family as they had no complaints. Police have filed an unnatural death case.
