Minu urges unity in the spirit of National Revolution and Solidarity Day

Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu on Saturday called upon people from all walks of life to work together in unity to protect national interests, thwart conspiracies, and advance the country towards prosperity.

He made the call while speaking at a discussion meeting held at the auditorium of Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy, marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day.

The minister said the people of the country had always demonstrated unity in defending their freedom and sovereignty, from the Liberation War to the recent movement against fascism.

Recalling the Liberation War of 1971, Minu paid tributes to the sacrifices of the East Bengal Regiment and valiant freedom fighters in the Battle of Hili and other frontline battles.

Highlighting the significance of November 7, 1975, he said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman took responsibility for the country during a critical period, enjoying the trust and support of the common people.

He said Ziaur Rahman inspired farmers, introduced banking facilities for young entrepreneurs, and opened new opportunities for economic emancipation through the introduction of the back-to-back letter of credit system in the readymade garment sector.

The minister also recalled Ziaur Rahman's contributions to enhancing Bangladesh's international dignity, including the planting of neem trees, known as 'Zia Trees', at the Arafat field in Saudi Arabia on behalf of the country.

He paid tributes to Ziaur Rahman's simple lifestyle and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's sacrifices in establishing democracy.

Referring to the development of Rajshahi, Minu said the establishment of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) had laid the foundation for improving law and order in the region, which had since made significant progress.

He further said Rajshahi had emerged as one of the best medium-sized cities in Southeast Asia, developing into a green, clean and healthy city through the collective efforts of its residents.

Expressing optimism about the city's future, he called for continued unity and collective efforts to sustain the positive trend and take Rajshahi further forward.

Later, the minister distributed prizes among the winners of a painting competition organized to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
