Tuku: Govt working to ensure healthcare services for disadvantaged people

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has said the government is prioritising efforts to ensure healthcare assistance and development programmes reach disadvantaged people at the grassroots level.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has placed particular emphasis on supporting underprivileged people, especially those suffering from cancer, kidney disease and other critical illnesses, by providing financial assistance for their treatment.

Tuku made the remarks on Friday afternoon while distributing cheques among poor patients suffering from cancer, kidney disease and other complex illnesses at the Tangail Sadar Upazila Parishad building.

He said anyone suffering from a serious illness who had not yet received medical assistance could apply for support, pledging to take all possible steps to help them. “The programme will continue. We are committed to the people and will continue working for their welfare,” he said.

The state minister added that the scope of government assistance had expanded across various sectors since the BNP assumed office. Initiatives include family cards, farmer cards and allowances for imams and muezzins, alongside development activities across the country.

He said the government was taking all possible measures to ensure that public services and assistance reached people at the grassroots level.

At the programme, six patients each received Tk100,000, bringing the total amount distributed to Tk600,000.

Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shaheen Mia chaired the event. Among those present were former Tangail district BNP general secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, Tangail Sadar Thana BNP President Azgar Ali, former district BNP organising secretaries Ashraf Paheli and Shafiqul Rahman Shafik, and Tangail district Jubo Dal Convener Khandaker Rashedul Alam Rashed.

Union parishad chairmen, leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations, and local dignitaries also attended.

After the cheque distribution, Tuku inaugurated a visitors' room at his office as part of efforts to improve public access to services and make government activities more accessible.
