A few seconds of video once made Beauty Rani Pal the focus of intense debate on social media. Months later, the head teacher of Pithaitikor Government Primary School in Fenchuganj is back in the spotlight—but this time for her work in the classroom.
Beauty Rani has been selected as one of four best teachers at the district level in Sylhet under a selection process conducted by the Sylhet District Primary Education Office.
A memorandum signed by District Primary Education Officer Sakhawat Ershad on Monday was sent to the divisional primary education office, naming the four teachers selected at the district level.
The other three are Md. Jamal Uddin Laskar, head teacher of Jahiria Government Primary School in Sylhet Sadar upazila; Nurjahan Begum, head teacher of Adampur Government Primary School in Osmaninagar upazila; and Adori Rani Das, an assistant teacher at No. 1 Chowdhury Bazar Government Primary School in Golapganj upazila.
For Beauty Rani, the recognition comes after an episode that briefly shifted public attention away from her professional life and toward her presence on social media.
On July 23, she uploaded a short video to Facebook. Wearing a blue sari, she was seen walking as the end of her sari moved in the breeze. The video was set to the song Shraboner Meghgulo.
The post soon spread widely online, drawing criticism, comments and trolling from sections of social media users.
Teachers from different parts of Bangladesh later posted their own videos using the same song in a symbolic show of solidarity with Beauty Rani. Their posts brought her experience back into the public conversation and prompted wider discussion about teachers, social media and the scrutiny public-sector educators can face over their personal online activities.
Beauty Rani later thanked people from across the country, as well as her family and the journalists who had supported her during the episode.
Now, her latest recognition has shifted the focus once again—to her career as a teacher.
The district-level selection is not Beauty Rani’s first major professional recognition.
Earlier, she was selected as the best head teacher in Sylhet district under the National Primary Education Award 2023.
She is also a former student of the Department of English at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
Her latest achievement adds another dimension to a story that had largely been defined by a viral video and the debate that followed it. Behind the social media controversy is an educator whose professional work has now earned recognition at the district level.
The four selected teachers will proceed to the divisional stage of the National Primary Education Award selection process, following the district-level assessment by the primary education authorities.
For Beauty Rani, it is a notable turn in a story that began with a few seconds of video but has now returned to the place at the heart of her professional identity—the classroom.
