Police on Tuesday recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy stuffed in a sack two days after he went missing in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola.
The body of Md Ismail, son of Md Akbar Hossain, was recovered in the morning from a canal near Muslimpara in Ward No-5 of the municipality, said Ashrafuddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Borhanuddin police station.
Police detained a 22-year-old youth, Md Rokon, for questioning in connection.
According to the family, Ismail left home to play at around 10:30am on Sunday.
When he did not return home by the afternoon, family members and locals began searching for him.
As he could not be found despite extensive searches his father filed a General Diary (GD) with the police station.
Locals spotted a sack floating in a canal near Muslimpara and informed police. Police went to the spot and recovered the boy’s body from inside the sack.
Relatives later identified the body as Ismail’s.
The victim’s family alleged Ismail’s father, Akbar Hossain, and Rokon were locked in an altercation over the purchase of a mobile phone.
Relatives claimed that Rokon threatened Akbar at the time.
OC Ashrafuddin said the boy’s body was sent to the morgue at Bhola Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
The cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death have not yet been confirmed, he said.
