A total of 40,580 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge in the 24 hours ending at midnight on Friday, generating Tk3.14 crore in toll revenue.
The information was confirmed to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday morning by Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office.
According to the Jamuna Bridge Authority, 15,448 vehicles travelling towards North Bengal crossed the bridge during the period, generating Tk1.35 crore in toll.
Meanwhile, 25,132 vehicles travelling towards Dhaka used the bridge, with toll collection amounting to Tk1.78 crore.
Riaz Uddin said vehicles are currently crossing the bridge through 18 toll booths—nine on each side. Two dedicated booths have been designated for motorcycles.
The authorities have been collecting toll on the bridge since its inauguration in 1998. Previously, toll collection was managed by the Commuter System Network (CNS).
Following a change in government, toll collection has been carried out by the China Road and Bridge Corporation since late 2012.
