Ahead of the holy festival of Eid-ul-Azha, the government has launched rice distribution under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for 4,625 underprivileged families in the Nowhata municipal area of Paba upazila in Rajshahi.
The two-day distribution programme began on Tuesday at the Nowhata Government High School grounds, bringing much-needed relief to low-income and destitute families ahead of Eid. Under the initiative, beneficiaries from all nine wards of the municipality are receiving 10 kilograms of rice each.
From early morning, large crowds gathered at the venue, with many standing in long queues to collect the assistance. The programme was inaugurated by Ibnul Abedin, who attended as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, he said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that no vulnerable family suffers from food shortages before Eid. He added that the rice distribution would be carried out in phases across different wards under strict administrative supervision to ensure transparency and proper delivery.
Officials present at the programme included Robiul Islam, Ataur Rahman and Sajjad Hossain.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude after receiving the aid. Many said the support would help reduce the burden of arranging food during Eid.
