Pohela Boishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year-1433, was celebrated in different districts across the country in an inclusive manner involving people from all walks of life on Tuesday.
In Rangpur, the district administration and various socio-cultural organisations arranged different programmes, including cultural performances and a ‘Boishakhi Shobhayatra’ that paraded major streets from Zilla School ground to Town Hall, reports our Rangpur correspondent.
Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam and city corporation administrator Mahfuz Un Nabi Chowdhury Don attended the procession.
Cultural programmes, folk songs, fairs and exhibitions were held at different venues, while tight security was censured by law enforcement agencies.
The celebrations drew participation from people of all ages, with colourful dresses, traditional displays and large crowds adding to the festive spirit.
In Bandarban, the day began with a vibrant Boishakhi procession that started from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in the morning. The programme was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Rajput Saching Pru Jeri, reports our Bandarban correspondent.
The procession paraded through the main roads of the town and concluded at the auditorium of the Cultural Institute of Minorities. People from different communities, including members of 11 ethnic minority groups, participated in the procession wearing traditional attire, adding to its color and diversity.
In Thakurgaon, the day’s celebrations began early morning at Battala on the court premises of the town. ArtistEs from the local cultural organization, Nikkon Sangeet Vidyalaya, ushered in the New Year with musical performances.
The venue soon resonated with Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, folk songs, Bhawaiya, and poetry recitations. The festive spirit was further heightened by the presence of men and women dressed in traditional red and white attire.
In Khulna, marking the day, Khulna district administration organized a day-long programme including a New Year reception, Boishakhi Shobhajatra, discussion meeting, prize distribution, traditional fair and cultural functions, reports our Khulna correspondent.
In the morning, a colourful Boishakhi Shobhajatra started from the Railway Station premises and paraded through different streets of the city before ending at Shaheed Hadis Park.
Government and non-government officials, members of socio-cultural organizations, teachers, students and people from all walks of life took part in the procession.
A discussion meeting, cultural programme, prize distribution ceremony and traditional fair were later held at Shaheed Hadis Park marking the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Acting Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Nazmul Haque said Pohela Boishakh is a universal festival and an integral part of Bengali cultural heritage.
Besides, Pohela Boishakh, the day was celebrated in Sylhet, Habiganj, Dinajpur, Lakshmipur, Madaripur, Comilla, Narayanganj, Sherpur, Joypurhat, Naogaon, Bhola, Jhalokathi, Barguna, Shariatpur, Panchagarh, Kushtia, Sirajganj, Patuakhali, Natore, Rajbari, Jessore, Netrokona, Chandpur, Noakhali, Magura, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Gazipur, Bogra, Jamalpur, Chapainawabganj, Feni, Gopalganj, Khagrachhari, Narail, Nilphamari and Satkhira districts involving people from all walks of life.
