Country set to welcome Bangla New Year

People across the country are set to welcome Pohela Boishakh on Tuesday, marking the first day of the Bangla New Year 1433, with colourful and inclusive festivities bringing together people from all communities.

In Chittagong, the main celebrations will take place at DC Hill and CRB areas, continuing a long-standing tradition. Organisers of the DC Hill Boishakhi Mela Udjapon Parishad said this year’s Boishakhi Shobhajatra will be held under the theme “Noboborsher Oikotan, Gonotontrer Punorutthan” (Harmony of the New Year, Resurgence of Democracy).

The programme will begin at 10am with a procession from the Circuit House, which will pass through key city thoroughfares before concluding at DC Hill, reports our Chhittagong reporter.

In Sylhet, cultural organisations, educational institutions and student groups have completed preparations for a day-long celebration featuring music, dance, recitation, processions and fairs.

Various organisations have planned programmes across the city. Anandalok will host performances at Srihatta Sanskrit College, while Shruti, Sylhet will organise a day-long cultural function at Blue Bird School. Charan, Sylhet will hold a Boishakhi festival at Lolananda Night High School grounds in Chauhatta, reports our correspondent.

In Barisal, festivities will begin early morning at Brajmohan School. A cultural programme organized by Udichi Shilpi Gosthi and Barisal Natak will start at 6:30am.

Freedom fighters will be honoured at 7:30am. The Boishakhi procession will begin at 7:50am with the rhythmic beats of traditional dhak and symbolic rakhi tying.

A three-day Boishakhi fair will also be held at the school grounds, showcasing Bengali heritage through music, dance, poetry and traditional crafts.

In Rangpur, Rangpur city is decked up with festive attire to welcome Pohela Boishakh, first day of Bengali New Year 1433, on Tuesday.

District administration, Shilpokola Academy, Begum Rokeya University, government departments, dozens of socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions have made preparations for colourful celebration of the Bangali New year festival. A preparation for Universal Boishakhi Shobhayatra and Boishakhi fairs are almost completed, reports our Rangpur correspondent.
