A child has died with measles-like symptoms in Tangail in the past 24 hours, hospital authorities said.
The 13-month-old, Safa, son of Saddam from Dholatia village in Tangail Sadar upazila, died early Friday while undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital. With this, the death toll at the hospital from similar symptoms has risen to two.
According to hospital sources, Safa was admitted on March 22 with measles-like symptoms.
Eight more children were admitted to Tangail General Hospital with similar symptoms in the 24 hours until Friday morning. So far, a total of 23 patients have been admitted with measles-like symptoms at the hospital.
Hospital officials said the number of children infected with measles has been increasing in Tangail for more than a week. The affected children are aged between two-and-a-half months and 12 months.
Superintendent of Tangail General Hospital, Khandakar Sadikur Rahman, confirmed the death, saying another child died early in the morning with measles-like symptoms. He added that all necessary preparations have been taken to provide treatment for measles patients.
