A woman was allegedly burned to death by her husband in Jamalpur on Friday. The incident occurred around 1:00am in the Doripara Mondolpara area of the district town.
Police later arrested the victim’s husband, Hossain Md Taifur (40), a lawyer of the Supreme Court. The body of the deceased, Tahmina Akter Tania (36), was recovered from the house.
According to local residents and witnesses, Tahmina Akter Tania, daughter of Abu Taher of the Mukundobari area, married Hossain Md Taifur of Doripara about 17 years ago. Locals said frequent family disputes occurred as Taifur had long been addicted to drugs.
The victim’s maternal uncle, Monowar Islam Cornel, said Tania returned to her husband’s house from her parental home around 8:30pm on Thursday. Later, at about 1:30am, Tania’s brother Tuhin informed him that she had been killed.
Additional Superintendent of Police Yahia Al Mamun said police rushed to the scene with the fire service after receiving information from locals and journalists. After bringing the fire under control, officers entered the house, recovered the body and immediately arrested the suspect.
