Over 1,000 poor patients received free treatment and necessary medicines at a free medical camp in Tangail on Friday.
Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), a voluntary healthcare organization, arranged the programme in honour of the language martyrs marking the International Mother Language Day 2026 at ‘Talim Ghar’ ground at Hatibandha, Shakhipur in Tangail District.
A team of more than 30 physicians and technologists, led by renowned kidney specialist and KAMPS Chairman Prof Dr MA Samad, treated patients throughout the day.
Patients suffering from kidney, heart, liver, gastrointestinal, diabetic and skin diseases, among others, received treatment.
A discussion session on preventing kidney disease through lifestyle changes also took place at the same venue.
Addressing the event, speakers appreciated the initiative taken by KAMPS to honour the language martyrs and provide free medical treatment and medicines to underprivileged patients.
In his keynote speech, Prof Dr MA Samad stressed the need to formulate policies to ensure widespread awareness programmes across the country, mainly aimed at preventing kidney disease.
He said the World Kidney Day authorities have emphasized prevention as the theme for 2025.
KAMPS Chairman and Head of the Department of Nephrology, Anwer Khan Modern Hospital, Prof Dr MA Samad presided over the sessions while Principal of Kumudini Womens Medical College, Prof Dr Md Abdul Halim, former Additional Secretary, Khondoker Mostan Hossain, Professor Dr Harisul Haque, Vice President of KAMPS, Poet Nasrin Begum, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Md Amin Sharif, Enamul Haque, Convener , Shakhipur Press Club, Managing Director of Country Group, Singapore, Anisur Rahman, Prof Dr Mohammad Ali, Prof Dr Sirajul Huq also spoke on the occasion.
The session was presided over by KAMPS Chairman and Head of the Department of Nephrology at Anwer Khan Modern Hospital, Prof Dr MA Samad.
