Three-day International Conference kicks off at KUET

A three-day International Conference titled ‘ICCESD-2026’ began at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on Thursday.

Department of Civil Engineering has organized the conference under the theme of Civil Engineering for Sustainable Development.

KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Maksud Helali attended the inaugural programme as the chief patron, while Professor Dr ABM Badruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was present as the chief guest.

In his inaugural address, the chief guest emphasized that environmentally friendly and cost-effective innovations in the civil engineering sector are essential to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He noted that such international conferences help elevate Bangladeshi engineers to global standards.

Md Khalequzzaman Chowdhury, Chief Engineer of Public Works Department, stressed the importance of ensuring the application of modern research in national infrastructure development.

The event was chaired by Professor Dr Kazi Hamidul Bari, Conference Chair and Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering at KUET.

The conference has brought together scientists, researchers, engineers, and planners from Bangladesh and various countries around the world. Key themes include sustainable infrastructure development, environmentally balanced construction, climate change and disaster management, coastal infrastructure protection, waste and water management, smart city planning and safe water supply, advanced transportation systems, traffic congestion mitigation, and modern road communication infrastructure.

Over the three days, a total of 335 research papers will be presented across 42 technical sessions. The conference is sponsored by Poles & Concrete Limited (PCL), Kadamtali Steel Mills Private Limited (KSML), Glory Poles Limited (GPL), and Seven Rings Cement.

Faculty members and students of KUET’s Department of Civil Engineering, along with invited guests from home and abroad, attended the inaugural session.
