Earthquake in Narayanganj: Newborn killed, 2 injured

A wall collapsed during the earthquake in Rupganj, Narayanganj, killing a newborn named Fatema, while the baby’s mother and a neighbor were reportedly injured.

The tragedy occurred after 10:30am on Friday.

Mukhlesur Rahman, inspector of the Bhulta police outpost in Rupganj, confirmed the incident.

The deceased baby, Fatema, was the daughter of Abdul Haque from Islambagh, Golakandail Union.

According to locals and eyewitnesses, during the morning earthquake, Fatema, her mother Kulsuma Begum and neighbor Jesmin Begum were passing by a road near Bhulta Gausia area when a wall collapsed onto them.

The newborn died on the spot and her body was recovered from beneath the rubble.

Kulsuma and Jesmin, who were injured, were rescued by locals and admitted to a nearby private hospital.
