JU students seize 28 Rajdhani buses after classmate allegedly pushed off

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have seized 28 buses of Rajdhani Transport Company on the Dhaka–Aricha highway after allegations that a female student was pushed off a moving bus.

The buses were intercepted one by one and kept near the university’s central field by midnight on Tuesday. The seizure began around 7pm.

The victim, Halima Khatun, a 50th batch student of the Public Administration department, sustained leg injuries in the incident.

Her classmates said that at around 5:40pm, Halima was pushed off a Rajdhani Transport bus near Pakija in Savar. She suffered severe pain and a sprained leg. After receiving primary treatment at the JU Medical Centre, she was transferred to Enam Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

Halima said: “I was pushed off the bus, which caused me leg injuries. I demand proper justice for this incident.”

Narrating the event, she added: “After finishing my tuition in the evening, I tried to board a bus from Pakija. The helper asked me where I was headed. When I replied ‘Jahangirnagar University,’ he refused to let me board and pushed me off the moving bus. I was badly hurt in my leg and am now undergoing treatment in hospital.”

Professor Dr AKM Rashidul Alam, the university proctor, said: “What happened to our student today is extremely inhumane. I have already spoken with the bus owner. A meeting will be held with the owners’ association at 12pm today. Further steps will be taken following the discussion.”
