Various programs were held on Wednesday both in favor of and against the demand for the resignation of the vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet).
Students, who have been protesting demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor, staged a demonstration on campus.
At the same time, faculty members, officials and staffers organized silent processions, human chains and meetings in opposition to the resignation demand.
The protesting also organized a sit-in in front of the Student Welfare Center.
Meanwhile, after breaking the lock and entering, students occupied the halls on Tuesday night.
They complained that the Kuet administration had cut off the internet and water supply to the halls.
On Wednesday, at around 12:45pm, a procession of faculty members, officers and staff began from the administrative building.
It culminated in a human chain and rally near the foot of Durbar Bangla.
During this time, faculty members and staff condemned the "harassment" of students by the Kuet vice-chancellor and voiced their protests.
Toufiq, a student from Amar Ekushey Hall, said: “Even though we have returned to the halls, there is a shortage of drinking water and the internet connection is cut off. The water from the tank two months ago is unusable. Hall staff have yet to be appointed. These issues have been conveyed to the hall provost, who has assured that the matter will be reported to the authorities.”
He added: “Due to the movement in July, our academic activities were suspended for two months. In total, the educational activities have been disrupted for about four to five months, severely affecting the students.”
Dr Saiful Islam, deputy director of the Kuet Student Welfare Office, said: “According to a decision made at the Syndicate meeting two months ago, the university’s residential halls were sealed off. During that time, the internet connection and water supply in the halls were as they were. The university authorities did not disconnect the internet or stop the water supply to the halls. The students’ allegations are not true.”
