Train fire disrupts rail traffic on Dhaka-Mymensingh route

A fire broke out in the power car of the Mohua Commuter train bound for Mohongonj just before it reached Satkhamair Railway Station in Gazipur’s Sreepur on Thursday morning, prompting authorities to suspend train operations on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.

Fire service officials said two units had responded to the scene and brought the blaze under control after an hour.

No casualties were reported.

Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Maona fire service, said firefighters had acted swiftly to contain the flames.

According to train driver Shahadat Hossain, smoke was first noticed coming from the power car before the train entered Satkhamair Station.

Following the incident, train operations on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route were suspended as efforts continued to recover the affected train.

Joydebpur Railway Station police outpost in-charge Khairul Islam said senior authorities had been notified about the incident.
