Asif Nazrul: No room for complacency regarding law and order

Legal Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul emphasized that the government cannot afford to be complacent regarding the current law and order situation, acknowledging both improvements and setbacks.

"Sometimes the situation has been good, and at other times, it has been much worse," he said. According to Nazrul, the challenges stem from the interim government working with a fractured police force, judiciary, and administration.

He further noted that while some members of the defeated fascist forces have fled the country, most of them remain within its borders. "They have significant financial resources and ill intentions, which continue to destabilize the situation," Nazrul added.

He explained that governing in a post-revolutionary context is no easy task, pointing out the complexity of restoring stability in such a volatile environment.

Nazrul's comments came during a press briefing before his participation in a workshop organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The workshop, titled "Law Enforcement with Emphasis on Human Rights and Environment in the Changing Situation of the Country," took place at the PTI Auditorium in Rajshahi on Monday.

In his address, the legal adviser stressed that the government is working relentlessly to address the failures in law enforcement. "We have a strong drive and are fully committed to resolving the issues at hand," he said. "We are constantly exploring new ways to improve the situation."

The workshop focused on ensuring justice while protecting human rights, a subject that remains a priority for the government. It brought together several key figures, including Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Tajul Islam, and various judges, public prosecutors, and officials from Rajshahi Division’s district and police administrations.

The event served as a platform to discuss strategies for improving law enforcement while safeguarding both human rights and the environment in the face of the country's evolving challenges.
