Home Adviser: Police will no longer implement anyone’s agenda

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has categorically said that the police will no longer implement anyone’s agenda, as the state belongs to all citizens—not to any particular party, group, or community.

Jahangir made the comment while addressing the passing-out ceremony of the 40th BCS probationary assistant superintendent of police (ASP) at the Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA) in Sardah, Rajshahi, on Sunday as chief guest.

He said a new chapter has been created through the July-August Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and emphasized the need to further uphold the pride of the police force with this new spirit.

The adviser said that police are independent employees of the republic and operate under specific rules and regulations.

As employees of the republic, they are committed to ensuring the overall security of citizens and relentlessly upholding the rule of law, he added.

They would never act as agents of any political party or carry out unjust or illegal orders, the adviser said.

He further expressed the desire to build a police force where no individual faces harassment.

"The police will work to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the general public and prove themselves as the people’s friends and dutiful officers through their service," he said.

He expressed confidence that the new officers would uphold these principles as they took their oath on the occasion of their training completion.

Jahangir congratulated the graduates of the one-year basic training and welcomed them into their new roles as well-trained, efficient police officers dedicated to ensuring the rule of law and serving citizens.

He also distributed trophies to the best cadets who excelled in various aspects of their training.

This year, ASP Ruhul Amin Labu was recognized as the best probationer, best academic, and best shooter, while ASP Muhammad Sayelin performed exceptionally well in field activities and horse riding.

Among those present at the ceremony were Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and BPA Principal Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan.

During the passing-out ceremony, 57 ASPs from the 40th BCS and three from the 38th BCS participated.

The chief guest observed their parade and received their salute.
