A 40-year-old Bangladeshi man was injured in a shooting by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Saturday night, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The injured man, Shahidul Islam, is the son of Jabed Ali from Kashirdanga village, Jagatber union, in the upazila.

According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the incident occurred at around 11:30pm when a group of smugglers, including Shahidul, was returning to Bangladesh from India with cattle.

At that time, BSF personnel from the Buraburi camp opened fire on the group, injuring Shahidul.

His companions managed to rescue him and flee back to Bangladesh, the BGB added.

He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed location in Rangpur.

Subedar Jahangir Alam, the Shamshernagar Company Commander of the 61st (Tista-2) Battalion of BGB, said a flag meeting was held at the border on Sunday morning regarding the incident.

The commander of the Mirrapa BSF camp and other officials attended the meeting.
