Woman doctor abducted from home in Rajshahi

A woman doctor and her father have reportedly been abducted from their residence in Rajshahi.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in the Chandrima Residential Area of Rajshahi city.

The perpetrators left her father on the road during the abduction and injured her mother.

The victim has been identified as Shakira Tasnim Dola, 26, a graduate of the Dental Department at Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi.

Her father, Abu Taher Khurshid Bokul, is a retired official of the Bangladesh Water Development Board.

Sources reveal that the abductors, while taking the female doctor, dropped her father near the Salanga area in Sirajganj.

Her mother, Rehena Parveen, 51, is currently receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for injuries.

Rehena Parveen said that she managed to communicate with her husband over the phone.

Quoting him, she said there were six abductors, including the driver of the microbus.

After forcing him into the vehicle, they gagged him and administered an injection, rendering him unconscious.

When he regained consciousness, he found himself abandoned beside a highway.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Shafiul Islam of Salanga police station said locals from the Vengri area of Salanga discovered Abu Taher around noon and brought him to the police station.

Both father and daughter had been forced into the same microbus by the abductors, who later took the daughter with them.

Relatives of the victims travelled from Rajshahi to retrieve Abu Taher, who was handed over to them in the afternoon.

A case related to the incident will be filed in Rajshahi.

Motiar Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandrima police station in Rajshahi, confirmed knowledge of the abduction and said that the family had been advised to file a complaint.

He assured that an investigation into the incident is underway.
