Police have arrested Muaz Bin Noor, a spokesperson for the Tabligh Jamaat's Maulana Saad Kandhalvi faction, in connection with the killing of three worshippers during clashes at the Tongi Bishwa Ijtema ground this week.
He was arrested in Uttara, Dhaka, early on Friday.
Tongi West police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iskandar Habib said a follower of the Tabligh Jamaat's Maulana Zubair faction filed a case on Thursday regarding the three killings at the Ijtema ground.
Muaz Bin Noor is listed as accused No five in the case, he said, adding that senior officials from the Gazipur Metropolitan Police were involved in the operation to arrest him.
On Thursday evening, Maulana SM Alam Hossain filed the case at Tongi West police station.
The case named 29 individuals and also included several hundred unidentified people as accused.
The fatal clashes erupted repeatedly between supporters of Maulana Zubair and Maulana Saad over the control of Tongi's Bishwa Ijtema grounds early on Wednesday.
