Unidentified body of youth found in St Martin's beach

Police have recovered the body of an unidentified youth with his hands and legs bound at St Martin’s Beach in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The body was discovered at around 11:30am on Thursday, December 19, in an area adjacent to the northern beach of the island.

While the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed, the police said that the age appears to be around 30 years.

The confirmation of the body recovery was given by Mohammad Giyas Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.

He said: "During high tide, locals saw a body floating in the sea near the northern beach area of St Martin's Island and informed the police. With the help of locals, we retrieved the body. The deceased's hands and legs were tied behind. He was wearing jeans pants and a long-sleeved sweater. There were several marks of injuries on his body. The body was swollen, emitting a foul odor, and the skin had peeled off."

The OC further said: "It is believed that the murder took place 4-5 days ago, and the body was thrown into the sea afterward. We are not yet certain about who committed the crime or the reason behind it. The police are working to uncover the mystery. The body has been sent to the morgue at the Cox's Bazar District Hospital for an autopsy."
