Ferry operations on the Chandpur-Shariatpur waterway were paused for nearly five hours on Monday due to dense fog.
The service between Harina and Narsinghpur Alubazar ghats was temporarily disrupted at 4am as visibility worsened. Operations resumed at 9am after weather conditions improved.
Faisal Alam Chowdhury, manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Harina Ferry Ghat, said: “The fog intensified late Sunday night, making ferry operations on the Chandpur-Shariatpur route risky. To prevent accidents, we interrupted services from 4am to 9am. Once visibility improved, operations resumed.”
He added that a few vehicles were stranded during the disruption.
“Every winter, dense fog occasionally disrupts operations. We follow prior instructions from higher authorities to ensure safety during such conditions,” Faisal added.
