A former assistant revenue officer of Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate in Kushtia, Md Sohrab Ali Bhuiyan, has verbally abused Dhaka Tribune journalist Kudrote Khuda Sobuj during a professional inquiry over the phone.
The journalist called Sohrab Ali on a number collected from the website of the National Bureau of Revenue (NBR). As soon as the correspondent introduced himself, the former revenue official became enraged and verbally abused him before disconnecting the call.
Sohrab Ali did not give a reason.
Kudrote Khuda said he had called the former official for a professional inquiry but Sohrab Ali did not cooperate.
“Rather, he became angry and abused me verbally and then hung up the call. I called him repeatedly afterward. But he did not receive my calls,” the journalist added.
