3 members of a family, including child, shot dead in Rohingya camp

Three members of the same family, including a child, have been shot dead in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

The shooting occurred early Monday morning, leaving camp residents Ahmad Hossain, 60, his son Syedul Amin, 28, and his daughter Asma, 13, dead.

The commander of the 14th APBn, Mohammad Iqbal, confirmed the incident, saying early in the morning, an armed group of Rohingyas entered Syedul Amin’s home.

"Hearing the commotion, Asma woke up crying. The attackers shot her to silence her cries. They then shot Ahmad Hossain and Syedul Amin before fleeing."

The official said while the father and son died on the spot, the severely injured Asma was taken to the hospital, where she later died during treatment.

According to their family, for some time, members of a Rohingya criminal group had been searching for Syedul Amin to kill him.

In an attempt to save their lives, the family fled from Camp 17 to take refuge in the 20th extension area of the camp a few days ago.

Ukhiya police said the deceased, Syedul Amin, was a commander of another Rohingya criminal group.

They added that the attack was carried out by members of a rival Rohingya criminal group over territorial disputes.

Police have recovered the three bodies and sent them to the district hospital for autopsy.
