Abducted from Tangail, police officer's son found dead in Gazipur

The decomposed body of a six-year minor boy has been recovered from Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur following his abduction from Tangail.

The deceased was identified as Raheenul Islam Araf, the son of police officer Khondkar Russell from Gopalpur's Gangapara village.

A team of police recovered the body near the boundary wall of the Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair, Gazipur.

Araf was abducted from his grandfather's house on the morning of October 8.

His grandfather, Nasir Uddin, filed a general diary with the Gopalpur police station on that day.

It is reported that two days after the abduction, the abductors demanded a ransom of Tk10 lakh over the phone.

Following this, police arrested Nur Nabi, the son of Ataur Rahman from the Nabdholatia village, on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the abduction.

Based on his confession, the police arrested Mokabbir Hossain, the son of Abdulkadir from Sharifpur village in Brahmanbaria district, on Friday.

Sub-Inspector Shafiqul Islam, the investigation officer at Gopalpur police station, stated that a case was filed on Friday regarding the abduction.

That day, when the two suspects were brought to the Tangail court, the court granted a five-day remand for them.

Araf's father, Khondkar Russell, is a resident of Gopalpur's Gangapara village and serves as a sub-inspector at Pakundia police station in Kishoreganj district.

After an autopsy at Gazipur Tajuddin Medical College Hospital, Araf's body was handed over to his family.

The complainant and Araf's grandfather, Nasir Uddin, mentioned that on the day of the incident, Nur Nabi lured Araf with chips and abducted him. After the kidnapping, the kidnappers demanded the ransom money.

Unable to secure the ransom, they brutally murdered Araf.

The family called for severe punishment for the abductors.
