Kashimpur jail guard arrested in drug smuggling attempt

A prison guard was detained by the prison authorities and handed over to the police while attempting to smuggle yaba, cannabis, and mobile phones into a bag.

 The arreste is Sabuj Hasan, 24.

Sabuj, son of Jasim Uddin from Char Dautia village in Dhamrai, Dhaka.

The incident took place at 11:30am on Saturday, at Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur.

The recovered items include 960 grams of cannabis in 10 packets, 97 yaba pills, and a mobile phone.

The guard has been handed over to Konabari police station.

Kashimpur Central Jail-2 Senior Jail Superintendent Amirul Islam said that guard Sabuj left the prison through the RP gate, where a woman handed him a bag within another shopping bag. The guards at the RP gate noticed this and, upon Sabuj's return, attempted to search him.

Sabuj quickly fled to the barracks on a motorcycle. Three guards then retrieved the bag from a false ceiling in the bathroom of the barracks and brought it to the jailer's office. Upon opening it in front of the police and the jailer, drugs were found inside. Legal action will be taken against him under prison regulations, he added.

Konabari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam said that the prison guard, Sabuj Hasan, has been handed over to the police and a case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act.
