Ishak Ali Khan Panna, the former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League and a member of the Pirojpur District Awami League, was killed while attempting to flee to India.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday morning in the Meghalaya region of India, according to a source.
Ishak Ali Khan Panna's nephew, Laikuzzaman Talukder Mintoo, chairman of the Chirapara Par Satoria Union Parishad and organizing secretary of the Kaukhali upazila Awami League, claimed that his uncle Panna died after slipping from a hill in Shillong, Meghalaya, on Saturday morning, which led to a heart attack.
Jasim Uddin Khan, brother-in-law of Ishak Ali Khan Panna's elder brother, said that he had spoken to Panna on the phone three days earlier.
He mentioned that Panna had returned to Dhaka two days after staying at his house on Shahid Fazlul Haque Road in Pirojpur town on July 25.
Jasim Uddin Khan said that they learned Panna had entered India through the Tamabil border in Sylhet, where he died.
A source said that during Panna's escape attempt, he was accompanied by a leader from the central committee of the Awami League, who hails from the Chittagong region, and a leader of the Jhalakathi Chhatra League.
Ishak Ali Khan Panna was elected general secretary of the Chhatra League in the 1994 central council.
After the 2012 council, he became a member of the central sub-committee of the Awami League and later a member of various sub-committees.
Until his death, he was a member of the Pirojpur District Awami League.
In 2008, Panna received the Awami League nomination from the Pirojpur-2 constituency, but he had to step aside due to the alliance-based election of the 14-party coalition.
In his professional life, Ishak Ali Khan Panna was the chairman of Diamond Life Insurance Company Limited.
