Six deaths were reported in the Comilla district in the last three days due to continuous rain and worsening flood situation.
The flood situation in Comilla on Thursday worsened as the water level in the Gomti River rose due to heavy rainfall and inflow from upstream.
The deaths occurred in various areas including Salahuddin intersection in Comilla city, Laksham, Chauddagram, and Nangalkot upazilas.
Among them, one died on Thursday, four on Wednesday, and one on Tuesday.
The deceased are Karamat Ali, 45, from Daudpur in Nangalkot municipality, Rafi, 15, from the Chhoto area of Comilla city, and Shahadat Hossain, 34, son of Kanu Mia from Sonakatia village in Chauddagram upazila, Khalid Mahmud, an Alim examinee of Laksham upazila and a lawyer Sohrab Hossain.
Besides, the identity of a child who drowned in Laksham is not yet known.
Local sources report that on Wednesday night, Karamat Ali from Daudpur in Nangalkot upazila drowned under a bridge while catching fish.
His body was found floating near the incident site after he was swept away by strong currents.
Residents recovered his body and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On the same day, a teenager named Rafi was electrocuted by an electric pole in the city.
Additionally, Shahadat Hossain, a migrant worker, died when a tree fell on him while he was fishing in floodwater in Adarshgram of Chauddagram.
Previously, on Monday, a lawyer named Sohrab Hossain was killed after being entangled in electric wires lying in the rainwater. He had left his pregnant wife at a diagnostic centre and was caught by the electrical wires while walking through the rain Salahuddin intersection in Comilla city.
One day later, the young lawyer's daughter was born.
Meanwhile, the Alim examinee Khalid died from electrocution when he came in contact with a live electric wire in rainwater.
The incident took place in Laksham upazila on Thursday.
