At least one person has been killed and over 50 injured in a violent clash between two groups of inmates at Rangpur Central Jail.
Prison guards are firing shots to bring the situation under control.
As of 12:30pm on Friday, intermittent gunfire could still be heard from inside the jail.
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mobasher Hasan confirmed the incident, and said: “I am heading there, and assistance from the army and police is being sought."
Despite repeated attempts, Dhaka Tribune was unable to reach any officials inside the jail for further comments.
