The walls of Comilla are now adorned with vibrant graffiti painted by students with messages of protest, patriotism, equality, and kinship.
This unique artwork, done by students involved in the anti-discrimination movement, has been spreading across various parts of the district for several days.
The graffiti reflects slogans for building a new Bangladesh in light of recent events, with artistic depictions of this vision.
A firsthand visit revealed that the walls of the Zilla School, Modern School, Victoria Government College’s higher secondary and degree branches, Comilla Government College, Government Women’s College, Language Soldier Ajit Guha College, Ideal College, Ruposhi Bangla College, and the walls in front of the deputy commissioner’s office and the Superintendent of Police’s office, as well as many alleyways, have been adorned with slogans of protest and calls for building a harmonious Bangladesh.
Even old and dilapidated walls have been scrubbed clean, repainted, and transformed into visual stories that has illuminated the entire area.
Currently, students from not only the district town but also from various upazilas are participating in this endeavor.
Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, following the student and public uprising, this collective initiative by students, who also manage traffic duties on the roads, has been praised by the general public.
Businessman Safayet Ullah and college teacher Mir Sohel, who were observing the graffiti in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Comilla, said that such love for the country by the students is truly a matter of pride.
They called for these graffiti to be recognized as works of art.
