5C recovered from Amu’s residence in Jhalokathi

Around Tk5 crore including foreign currency has been recovered from Jhalkathi-2 constituency Member of Parliament Amir Hossain Amu's residence in Jhalokathi.

According to the police, on Monday around 12:30pm, the members of the fire service came to put out the fire at the residence of Amir Hossain Amu on Ronalse Road in the district and found money in the luggage.

Later, when the matter was reported to the army and the police, they came and recovered the money in the luggage.

After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday afternoon, an angry mob vandalized and set fire to Amir Hossain Amu's Jhalokathi residence in the afternoon.

 Later, the fire service personnel tried to put out the fire several times and brought it under control.

Around 12am in the night, the locals saw the fire again on the third floor of the building.

On information, the fire service personnel came there and threw water while extinguishing the fire, bundles of money came out from some of the burnt luggage.

The fire service personnel informed the matter to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.

Later, the army and policemen came and recovered the luggage.

Army and police personnel confirmed the recovery of Tk1 crore unharmed in one luggage and Tk2.77 crore partially burnt from other luggage.

In addition, the police also said that currency worth around Tk1 crore of different countries including dollar, euro was found.

Jhalokathi Fire Service Station Master Md Shafiqul Islam said, while extinguishing the fire in many blankets in the third floor room of the building, some bundles of money came out.

Then some luggage is also found.

After reporting the matter to the District Commissioner, the army and police came and recovered the money.
