A local trader was killed after receiving a bullet in a clash between police and protesters during a March procession in Mawna area Gazipur on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam, 45.
Besides, 15 people were injured in the clash.
Protesters staged demonstrations and blocked roads in Gazipur's Sreepur on Saturday.
Meanwhile, they set fire to three pickups of the Sreepur police station and two vehicles of Mawna Highway police station.
Meanwhile, they vandalized and set fire to two highway police boxes under the Mawna flyover.
They also vandalized several people's vehicles and business establishments in front of various markets.
The protesters locked into a clash with police. A chase and a counter-chase took place.
Police fired shotguns, rubber bullets, and tear gas to bring the situation under control.
When the clash started, the agitators started throwing bricks at the police. Several members of the police were injured. At one point in the afternoon, the police tried to bring the situation under control by dispersing the agitators by firing shotguns and tear gas.
Jahangir received a bullet and died on the spot, said his neighbour Kajol Miah.
Akbar Ali Khan, officer-in-charge of Sreepur police station said that police were staying peacefully in Bhai Bhai City on Sreepur road with unarmed hands.
The protesters suddenly attacked the unarmed police. At one point, they attacked three police cars parked under Bhai Bhai City, vandalized them and set them on fire.
Later they also set fire to two boxes of the highway police under the flyover.
