20 injured in clash between police, protesters in Sylhet

At least 20 people were injured in a clash between protesters from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and police in the Akhalia area near Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) on Friday afternoon.

The police reportedly obstructed the student movement's "mass march" program in Sylhet.

When students tried to break through the barricade, the police dispersed them by firing sound grenades, tear gas shells, and shotguns.

During the clash, the police detained seven people at the scene.

Sylhet Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner Azbahar Ali confirmed that the clash was ongoing until 6:25pm.

He also acknowledged that seven police officers and one child were injured during the confrontation.
