Quota reform: Press conference in presence of DB OC in Faridpur, program withdrawn

A group of students who identified themselves as students of Faridpur Polytechnic Institute and Faridpur High School on Monday held a press conference in presence of officer-in-charge of Detetctive Branch of police of the district.

The students announced the withdrawal of quota reform movement program from the press conference.

This press conference was organized at Faridpur Press Club at around 12:30pm under the banner of “Anti-discrimination student movement, Faridpur”.

However, the students who have been leading the movement since the beginning say that the two coordinators of the quota reform movement in Faridpur are currently in jail.

 In this situation, no one else has the opportunity to announce the withdrawal of the movement.

Faridpur Polytechnic Institute sixth-semester student Arman Shikder read the written statement at the press conference. Faridpur High School students Riyad Mollah and Rabiul Islam were present at the press conference.

Eyewitnesses said that in the room where this press conference was held, Faridpur Detective Police (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Matin, District Police Special Branch Inspector (DIO-1) Mohammad Abu Naeem and members of the administration and intelligence department were present. .

Besides, when the press conference was going on, some leaders and activists of District Chhatra League were seen standing outside the press club.

It is said in the written statement that since the government has fulfilled the logical demands of the students, the movement programs which were taken up by the anti-discrimination student movement Faridpur have been withdrawn.

Now they demanded the government to open all educational institutions to ensure fair environment for education.

Besides, thanks and gratitude was expressed to the government and the prime minister from the press conference for logically reforming the quota in all types of government jobs.

Two coordinators of “anti-discrimination student movement” have been arrested in Faridpur.

Abrab Nadeem actively participated in the movement with them from the beginning.

Regarding this press conference, he said that they have not withdrawn their program. Two of their coordinators in Faridpur, Shah Md Arafat and Johnny Biswas, are currently in jail.

“Apart from that, our 9-point demand has not yet been implemented. There is no chance to withdraw this movement until our demands are met,” he added.
