Quota reform movement: Clash reported in Narayanganj

A clash between police and quota reform protesters in Narayanganj turned violent as police fired tear gas and rubber bullets, and protesters retaliated by throwing bricks.

The confrontation, which began at 12:30pm and lasted until 1:30pm, left 20 people injured.

The area from the Chashadha intersection to Narayanganj Press Club turned chaotic. The injured are being treated at various hospitals and clinics.

School and college students in Narayanganj, along with those on Bangabandhu Road, protested and blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, demanding quota reform.

Public transport on the Dhaka-Narayanganj road and Chittagong highway has been halted since morning.

The BGB has been deployed in the Jalkuri and Signboard areas of the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.

Anti-quota students gathered on Bangabandhu Road in front of Narayanganj Press Club around 10:30am and began their protest. Small processions of students protested on Bangabandhu Road, taking positions on the railway road in Chashadha and No. 2 railway gate areas. They also requested that shops in the city markets close.

Simultaneously, school and college students blocked the road at Shimrail intersection and Shanarpar areas on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, demanding quota reform.

However, no untoward incidents have been reported elsewhere in Narayanganj.
