Explosions from Myanmar again cause panic in Teknaf

Explosions from Myanmar's Rakhine State have once again caused panic in the bordering villages of Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar.

Since Tuesday night, loud explosions have been repeatedly heard in these areas, continuing until 5:30pm on Wednesday.

Local residents reported mortar shell explosions in the villages of Kadirbil, Mongnipara, and Sudapara in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State in Myanmar, causing loud noises.

Sabrang Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Noor Hussain told media that the Sabrang area of Teknaf, which is opposite Maungdaw Township, has been significantly affected. The residents are unable to sleep peacefully due to the explosions, with houses occasionally shaking. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the loud noises.

Panel Mayor Mujibur Rahman of Teknaf Municipality noted that people are fearful in Teknaf's Nightongpara, Chowdhury Para, Jaliyapara, Kayukkhaliapara, Pallanpara, Kulalpara, and Dailpara areas as explosions resumed in Myanmar from Tuesday night. Houses in these areas are also shaking due to the blasts.

Saint Martin UP Chairman Mujibur Rahman mentioned that trawlers and speedboats have been halted on the Teknaf-Saint Martin waterway since June 5, endangering the 10,000 residents of the island. Navigating the rough sea waves by alternative routes is not possible.

Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Adnan Chowdhury said that although the border area was relatively calm on Eid, intermittent explosions have been heard since Tuesday night. The situation is being closely monitored.

Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed that BGB patrols are ongoing to prevent border infiltration.
