Padma Bridge: 5C toll collected in 24hrs

The government earned a record Tk48,272,450 crore in revenue through tolls from the vehicles that crossed the Padma Bridge in 24 hours till 12am on Friday.

The toll was collected following 44,033 vehicles crossing the bridge on the day.

Padma Bridge Manager (Toll) Md Ahmed Ali confirmed the information on Saturday.

He said that out of these vehicles, 28,896 vehicles crossed the bridge from the Mawa end of Munshiganj from which Tk27,264,550 of toll had been collected. Apart from this, there is a toll of Tk1,20,350 on government vehicles. While moving, the toll collected by the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETCS) is Tk1,200. Total earning from this is Tk27,386,100.

On the other hand, 15,137 vehicles crossed the bridge from Jazira end and Tk20,765,550 has been collected in toll. Apart from this, the total income is Tk20,886,300 including Tk1,20,800 for vehicles of government institutions.

As Thursday is the last working day before Eid, people started returning home from that night. Due to this, the Padma Bridge, which is known as the gateway to South Bengal, was thronged with people from Thursday night to Friday.

On June 25, 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the much-awaited Padma Bridge. The bridge was opened for traffic the next day.
