RAB DG: KNF members will be rehabilitated if they surrender

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General M Khurshid Hossain on Wednesday said members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) will be given the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves if they surrender.

“Previously, miscreants were also rehabilitated. The operations will continue until they return to the path of peace," he said as the law enforcers conduct operations in Bandarban.

Describing the incidents of bank robberies and the kidnapping of a bank manager in Bandarban as extremely condemnable, the Rab director general said: "Joint operations are ongoing in the hills. There can be no armed terrorists in our country.

"They will be given another opportunity to negotiate. If they wish, they can sit for discussions again with the peace committee, or they can negotiate through the district administrator or the police superintendent.”

On April 3, KNF members attacked Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank in Bandarban's Thanchi upazila around 12:30pm and looted Tk15,00,000 from Sonali Bank and Tk2,45,000 from Krishi Bank.

Earlier, the gunmen broke the vault of Sonali Bank in Ruma upazila of Bandarban at around 8:30pm on April 2 and looted around Tk2 crore.
