A group of miscreants vandalized Sreepur Awami League General Secretary Nure Alam Molla’s house, fired rounds, and set bird cages on the veranda on fire in Gazipur.
The incident took place at Sreepur’s South Bhangnahati on early Tuesday.
Sreepur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shah Zaman confirmed the incident.
Noor Alam Molla accused Akhtar Hossain Khan from Sreepur’s Boiragirchala area and said: “Akhtar called me and asked me to come outside on Monday night. When I suggested to mee him the next day, as it was late, he became agitated and verbally abused me.”
“After hearing gunshots at 12:29am, I went outside but found no one. Later, at 3:45am, miscreants shot 10 rounds at my house. They also poured petrol on the bird cages on the veranda through the collapsible gate and set them on fire,” he added.
Police visited the spot on Tuesday morning after being informed through emergency service 999.
He further said: “Sreepur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rayhan visited the spot and found six rounds of bullets. The gunfire made by the miscreants was clearly visible in the CCTV footage. At that time, they left two Pepsi bottles containing octane or some kind of petrol in front of the house gate. Four more rounds of bullets and two Pepsi bottles with a small amount of petrol were found around the house in the morning.”
Akhter Hossain Khan's phone was switched off and could not be reached.
OC Shah Zaman said: “Police were visited to the scene immediately upon receiving the news.”
When asked whether any bullets or bullet casings were found at the scene, he said: “The matter is under investigation.”
