Two Ansar members arrested from Magura

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two active members of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam from Magura.

RAB-6 Director Lt Col Mohammad Firoz Kabir said they arrested the militants after receiving a tip-off that some members of the banned militant outfit were holding a secret meeting on Wednesday.

The arrestees have been identified as Ishaan Haider, 28, and Md Abdul Karim, 27.

During the raid, some unidentified members of Ansar al-Islam managed to flee, he added.

The arrestee, during the primary interrogation, said they were inspired by the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan and were running the activities of Ansar al-Islam following the ideologies of al-Qaeda.

The arrestee, Ishaan Haider, was working as a production officer at a private company before joining Ansar al-Islam. While Abdul Karim was a shopkeeper.

Both of the arrestees have cases filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

RAB has recently arrested more than 100 militants, including the ameer and top leader of the banned Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.
